Madan Harish SnS Containers (P) Ltd Without any formal education in packaging, at the age of 20, he started his own corrugated box making work in 1982. He won the FCBM’s Harlalka award, which is given for meritorious contribution to the cause of corrugated packaging, in 1994. He became the president of (NICMA) in 1998 and the president of FCBM on 12th December 2004. He is a lifetime member of the Indian Institute of Packaging.

"I think, as FMCG products’ industry is picking up, corrugated box industry is also growing. There is a shift from wooden cases to paper boxes as secondary package. New opportunities are opening up for the corrugators who are ready to upgrade and improve quality. Integrated quality systems like ISO 9000, six sigma and TQM need to be used to effectively service demanding clients.

There is a shift also in the use of corrugated boxes as primary package in horticultural products. Apples are largely being packed in corrugated boxes and you can see the trend catching up in other fruits including mangoes. The annual growth of the industry is 15- 20% and lot of action can be expected in the coming years.

"Internet is the voice of business today. Communication and transactions no longer take place on paper only. In our industry, we had seen several companies setting up reverse auctions. These auctions were generally perceived to have a negative effect by the industry players as they focused only on the price in total exclusion of the quality and the capabilities of the bidders. I think that such auctions will come back in the long run as the industry matures and the Internet evolves.

Reading opens a person`s mind to the world and broadens his outlook. I feel, the reading habit has helped my ability to think up various options in many circumstances. I have also come across situations in books that are applicable to real life as well.
