Zeus Snaps Up Omega Packaging
The company has acquired Omega for Euro 8 million.

Zeus Packaging Group, the Irish industrial and retail packaging distributor, has acquired Omega Packaging for Euro 8 m (£6.4m).

The Dublin-based packaging group said the purchase of Omega, based in Bray, County Wicklow, will bring its annual turnover to more than € 90 m.

Omega is a leading Irish supplier of refuse sacks and bin liners and its Rainbow brand of plastic sacks are sold by most major supermarkets in Ireland.

The firm is also the sole distributor in Ireland of BioBags, a range of compostable and biodegradable bags.

It also supplies heat-sealed fresh food packaging and a large range of medical and hygiene products.

Omega Packaging business development manager Margaret O'Donoghue said the firm employed 12 people and has an annual turnover of € 9.2 m.

The purchase follows Zeus' acquisition of All Purpose Packaging in Stevenage in June.

Zeus has been expanding rapidly in recent years and acquired industrial packaging firm Fillmore Packaging in Corby and Coogan & Watts in Newtownabbey, County Antrim, last year.

The company, founded in 1989, employs 250 staff, based primarily in Rathcoole, County Dublin, but also has facilities in Belfast and Cork. It is investing €20m in a new headquarters in Dublin that is due to be completed in January.

Zeus Packaging chief executive Brian O'Sullivan said, `We now have a very strong foothold in the UK market and look forward to growing the business both in the UK and further afield over the coming years.`
