The Commercial Printing Hub Roots For Labels
Hyderabad turns out in large numbers for the ILS roadshow.


The Hi-tech printers of Hyderabad, their suppliers and customers got together to give the ILS road show a big thumbs up on the Saturday the 7th of August 2004. Several printers from Kurnool, Guntur, Vijaywada and Karimnagar who had especially travelled to the city to visit the catalogue show and the evening seminars joined them.

``We have got some very good enquiries and also met with a prospective dealer,`` said Vinay Dayal of Alois Gutenberg about the catalogue show. The two adjacent halls at the Hotel Viceroy had featured 25 exhibitors, which included national and regional players in a tabletop show. There was a steady stream of visitors through out the day. ``There were more than 200 visitors,`` confirmed Neetha Shetty who was handling the registrations on behalf of the organisers.

The special guest for the evening was Hanumanth Rao, the Chairman of Pragati Offset Pvt. Ltd. and the President of the Hi-tech Printers Association. The veteran printer from Hyderabad, who set a blazing trail that has made Hyderabad the hub for commercial printing in India, invited the printers to explore the opportunities that the thriving label industry represented. ``However, we must also be careful to study the subject closely and avoid a band wagon syndrome,`` he cautioned.

M Hemadari from the consulting firm Packworld made a presentation about the role of labels in the pharma industry. He covered the entire value chain of the label conversion including the process of label stock manufacturing. He talked about the brand protection and anti- counterfeiting features of labels and rounded off the presentation with a suggested strategy for the Indian label converters.

The second speaker for the day was Sudhir Samant of Heidelberg (India) that represent the Gallus Label presses in the country. He spoke of various printing technologies available for product decoration and examined the latest trends in rotary screen-printing in some detail. He rounded of the presentation with a presentation on combination printing and how the latest presses are increasing the possibilities of decoration manifold.

Earlier, Anil Arora gave a presentation on the India Label Show. He informed the gathering that more than dozen Indian and Imported label presses and several other equipment will be shown running in the exhibition. P V Narayanan, Director, SIES School of packaging briefed the delegates about the Info Label conference. Both the events will be held simultaneously at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, from the 3rd December 2004
