Rosewood Packaging Benefitting From UK Export Surge
A packaging business is benefiting from the upsurge in the North East's export market and expects to more than quadruple its turnover over the next five years.
North Shields-based Rosewood Packaging believes its heavy involvement in the booming car export market will allow it to grow its turnover from pounds 14m to around pounds 70m by 2013.
The firm, which carries out packaging work for Nissan, hopes to secure further contracts with the Japanese car giant following news that it will be manufacturing a new model from 2010 at its Sunderland factory and that it has introduced a third shift at the site.
Rosewood's managing director Stephen Lord is confident that the firm will be able to ride out the current economic downturn with the help of the region's buoyant export market, which recently exceeded the pounds 10bn mark for the first time.
He said: `Most of the work we do is in exports and particularly the packaging of complex automotive parts. The recent news from Nissan is just a signal of how much confidence foreign manufactures have in the region and we hope to work even closer with all the major automotive brands throughout the UK.`
Rosewood recently moved its management, administration and warehouse staff to a newly acquired building in North Shields. The firm now operates from two sites in North Shields and a site in Gateshead.
It now believes it can grow its 160-strong workforce to utilise the extra floor space after seeing its staff grow from 35 to 160 over the last five years.
`By achieving the key objectives that we have set ourselves, we have created a springboard to further growth,` Lord said. `Despite the economic downturn, there are no signs that the export industry is going to slow down.`
