TCS and Tagsys come together to target the Indian market
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organized a seminar with Tagsys, a European company and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), focusing on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) for pharmaceutical industry. Both the companies explained that RFID could play a major role in the pharmaceutical sector in India.
Tagsys and Tata Consultancy Services would soon be setting up a manufacturing unit in Chennai and a R&D centre in Hyderabad. Tagsys is known for designing, manufacturing and integrating end to end RFID infrastructure. The negotiations regarding investment and expansions of manufacturing and R&D facility in India are still going on between the companies. The feasibility report is expected to be released by April 1. They plan to manufacture 100 million tags of RFID during the first year. They would be employing highly technical personnel for their companies and would be using high technology to manufacture chips and tags. TCS would be establishing RFID Labs across the country to give live demonstration of the technology to the users. The companies would be targeting fashion industry, pharmaceutical sector, textile and libraries in Indian market and they hope to capture a big share in the Indian market.
Speakers from TCS and Tagsys explained how RFID would be useful to the whole pharmaceutical sectors and top-level management personnel of major pharmaceutical and chemical companies of India.
According to Tagsys, the new technology can be used to stop counterfeiting of drugs in pharmaceutical sector. Elie Simon, president and CEO of Tagsys said, 'The technology is the basic ingredient for the next generation drugs. It will improve the efficiency of pharma's supply chain at multiple locations and most critically to plug the gap for introducing counterfeits or adulterated drugs'.
While addressing the delegates, S Venkatramani, regional director of TCS said, 'TCS is a global IT solutions and service provider that has developed various solutions on RFID technology like Track and Trace, Product Authentication, etc while Tagsys is in item tagging that designs, manufacture and delivers RAS (Reliable Accurate and Secure) end to end solutions,'.
