PackAge 2010 Conference delved deep in issues pertaining to the packaging and converting industry.

The year 2010 edition of PackAge Conference was organized on 2 December 2010 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. With ‘Packaging Conversion’ as its theme, the Conference focused on the Latest Developments in Converting and Optimization of Converting Process.

Debabrata Deb, a packaging consultant and the conference co-ordinator, initiated the first session with a note on the packaging and converting industry and a brief introduction of the Speakers. Pierre Vallelian, Bobst Group took over the dais thereafter to give an address on the global scenario and latest developments in the packaging industry. He then chaired the first session on the latest developments in converting technologies.

Dr. Frank Bernotat & Dr. Holger Niemeier, Hosogawa Alpine Aktiengeselischaft, Germany under the topic ‘World class blown film technology for the Indian market’ gave a presentation on their range of blown film extruders. Rajoo Engineers will launch their extruders in India shortly. Torsten Schmitz, Windmoller & Holscher made a presentation on ‘Latest developments in cast CPP film’ and introduced their very advanced cast film machine. Joerg Scholz, Fischer & Krecke gave an insight into the compay’s advanced flexo printing machines with a presentation on ‘Latest developments in CI flexo printing including graphic positioning system’, which was followed by a presentation on a new range of gravure printing machines by Udo Neumann fromW&H.

Biku Kohli, S P Ultraflex gave a presentation on ‘Latest developments in slitting of plastic films & laminates, aluminium foil & paper’, discussing different problems that could be faced in slitting and how those are addressed in the latest slitting machines. Dharmesh Zavery from Paharpur 3P gave a presentation on the global scenario in pouches, the various end uses, the new generation pouches and modifications that can be done on pouching machines to add consumer convenience and value to pouches.

P. Dasgupta, HUL, chaired the second session on Optimization of Converting Processes with live examples from his vast experience. This was followed by a presentation from Randy Freeman, Quadtech Inc, USA on ‘Developments in colour management, quality and waste reduction’ and ‘Latest developments in defect detection systems in package converting’ by I D Singh from BST. Singh spoke on the new generation registration control, defect detection and colour management systems.

R S Prasad from Sakata Inx gave a presentation on ink optimization, the philosophy and role of ink kitchens and Anil Namugade from Trigon Digital Solutions explained the process of Quick Time Development with his presentation on ‘Quick time design conception, innovation, standardization’.

Prof.Anjan Kumar Baral, Guru Jambeshwar University, Department of Printing Technology, ended the session with his presentation on ‘Optimization of flexo printing through correct use of anilox rolls’, wherein he explained the important developments in Anilox Rolls for Flexo Printing.

“With renowned speakers coming from all over the world to share their experiences and knowledge, PackAge 2010 was a huge success. What was remarkable was the exposition of latest technologies which will truly benefit converters in India. The interaction between speakers and attendees helped the latter find solution to their problems and clear their doubts,” said Debabrata Deb.
