Launch of Orthotec Servo Driven Shaftless Intermittent Label Printing Machine
Label Planet has been serving the industry as an agent for Orthotec, Taiwan – manufacturer of label printing machine -for the last fourteen years. The company organised an Open House on 13 Aug, 2009 to launch Orthotec Servo Driven Shaftless Intermittent Label Printing Machine. JK Fine Prints is the first company in India to install this machine.

Tell us about the installations of Orthotec presses at JK Fine Prints.
After detailed analysis of the printing market and understanding the working of all the available presses, we decided to install a flat bed CN2850 letterpress machine from Orthotec about two years ago. The machine was very simple to use and had versatile attributes. This prompted us to seek into more advanced machines offered by Orthotec and so we ventured into their intermittent letterpress machine CSL 3022, the flagship model offered by the company. It is the one of the sturdiest machine in the letterpress market and has excellent features especially for long run jobs.
What made you install the new Orthotec shaft less full servo press?
Orthotec, being a direct servo system where the plate cylinder is directly connected to the servo shaft, creates a direct and an immediate response from human to machine reducing errors. Besides a shaft less system is way more accurate than a shaft system. Letterpress has reached the epitome of its development and with this product Orthotec has brought in a revolution in the field of letterpress printing.
What are the advantages of this new press and how do you think it will add to your work process?
Intermittent when compared to flexo gives flexibility to use same cylinder for almost all repeat lengths. This saves a lot of money when it comes to job startups. There are also a lot less inventories to handle. The new press will definitely help us in taking up jobs which we earlier avoided due to lack of repeat lengths.
How will you comment on Orthotec products and services?
From the very beginning when we visited Taiwan and installed Orthotec’s first machine at our plant, we have seen a very good service from the company. John Huang, Director, Orthotec has given us lot of support in case of machine breakdowns. Similarly Amit Sheth from Label Planet, the Indian distributor of Orthotec has always been there to help us with the know-how of the machines.
Being a 40-year old company, what changes do you see in the label and flexo industry of India?
Our industry is growing at an unexpected rate. We are improving in quality and competing with world printers, which has put India in the forefront of the printline industry. Flexo is definitely the first choice for long run jobs and we will see an explosion of presses in the next five years. People are leaving behind the will do attitude and opting for quality products.
Tell us about the CI and narrow web flexo press present with JK Fine Prints. We believe you have a Gallus installation at your plant.
We work towards catering to all segments of the label industry. Yes, we have a Gallus machine for long run and absolutely high quality, error free jobs. The new Orthotec press helps us with the jobs of different sizes and colours. We also have a flat bed printing press with online sproketing function for making computer labels. This basically covers all formats of printing and so we can cater to all segments of the market.
