No Escaping The Jaws Of This Shark
New inspection system from BST preys on defective labels

BST International, the worlds’ leading manufacturer of web control systems for printing and converting, has introduced a 100% inspection system for narrow web label presses and re-winders. BST's 100% inspection system is said to be so powerful, so relentless in its pursuit of defects and so superior in it's simplicity that it could only be called ‘Shark’. With ‘Shark’ on patrol, it is easy to identify and remove every print defect on every roll with little effort, insuring 100% quality, 100% of the time.

Shark was designed for use on a re-winder or narrow web press and is different from other inspection systems in a number of very important ways:

Superior Defect Management Software - Shark's unique defect management software package was designed to speed up the defect management process by making it easier to evaluate defects the system has identified and to more quickly and efficiently take appropriate action.

A unique defect management screen contains all the information needed to access the severity of identified defects and take action fast. A Defect Review icon allows a review of the most recent defects identified, with the touch of the screen.

Intuitive Operator Interface For Greater Ease of Use - Shark features a unique all icon driven user interface that is both intuitive - the user navigates around the repeat simply by touching the desired area – and very easy to learn.

Unique Lighting Technology - Shark has a unique (patent pending) lighting system that guarantees consistent lighting so critical to reliable line scans defect detection.

Greater Productivity – The system acquires golden master images 50% faster than other systems, resulting in huge timesavings for every job. Inspection can be started quicker, rolls get processed faster and users benefit from higher throughput.

Shark can perform 100% inspection of webs up to 500mm, effectively identify missing print, reverse type fill-in, splash, spots, mis-register, hickeys, dirty print, web crease, haze, scumming, smudges, streaks, hairs, die-cut variations and incorrect matrix removal.
The machine can effectively identify random and repeating defects and is suitable for use on all kinds of substrates, including highly reflective materials.

In side-by-side trials, Shark was judged by users to be easier to use and more reliable than competitive systems.
