Nalco Rs 42bn expansion plan
Includes increasing refining capacity to 1.575 million tonnes


The state-owned National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Nalco) has decided to spend about Rs 42bn on its expansion plans. The expansion plan at Damanjodi includes enhancing the bauxite mining capacity to 4.8 million tonnes and aluminium refining capacity to 1.575 million tonnes at a cost of Rs 16.5bn. Under the expansion plans the new pot line will be commissioned t take the aluminium smelting capacity from 230,000 tonnes to 345,000 tonnes. Nalco exported 119,000 tonnes metal and 496000 tonnes of alumina last fiscal. The company also achieved record production in bauxite at 2.83 million tonnes and calcined alumina at 930,000 tonnes during FY2001.
