Mettler Toledo Launches New Contaminant Detector
This new inspection system is developed for the processed food industry.
Mettler Toledo Safeline, the metal detection and x-ray equipment manufacturer, has developed a new inspection system for the processed food industry.
The CanChek X-ray uses a horizontal multi-beam system to inspect a can through its cross section, enabling it to detect contaminants in the densest areas of the can such as the top, base and sidewalls.
The CanChek, which can run at speeds of 1,200 cans per minute, has the effect of pulling contaminants away from the sidewalls to increase visibility, which Mettler said `dramatically increased sensitivity and the probability of detection`.
Niall McRory, sales and marketing manager, said: `By automatically rejecting any cans containing foreign bodies like stone and bone, manufacturers can optimise safety and avoid recalls.`
CanChek can also measure mass and checks fill levels and be retrofitted to existing conveyors.
Mettler Toledo has manufacturing facilities in China, Germany, Switzerland, the UK and the US, as well as sales operations worldwide.
