Kerbside Collection Facilities `Hindering` Packaging Recycling
The result was an outcome of research was last month via online surveys of 2,486 adults.

Packaging recycling in the UK is being hindered by the state of kerbside collection facilities, according to research by insurance firm Zurich.

Zurich found that 79 percent of people would be `more active recyclers` if their local council collected more in roadside pick-ups.

It found that 23 percent admitted they threw away recyclable material because it was 'too much hassle' to go to the recycling centre.

Four in ten people only recycle material that is collected from their doorstep.

Andrew Jepp, Zurich's head of local government, said, `People are only happy to go green on their own terms and that means a heavy reliance on local authority initiatives.`

`While people are in favour of recycling, we still throw away half of everything we use largely because we think it is too much trouble to change our habits.`

The research found that one in eight wouldn't want to wash out containers after use, while one in ten finds it 'inconvenient to sort waste'.

Zurich found that, on average, the UK throws away three pieces of cardboard packaging per week.

The research was completed last month via online surveys of 2,486 adults.
