Jindal Poly Films Commissions the Largest BOPP Line in the WORLD

Jindal Poly Films Ltd. (JPFL) has commissioned what is the world's largest BOPP line at its Nasik plant. The Bruckner line has a nameplate capacity of 45,000 MT per annum and is expected to hit 100% capacity utilisation by March 2007. Another 45,000 MT/annum line will be added and is expected to be in operation in early 2008.

JPFL has been a remarkable success story and it has had an almost fairy-tale emergence from start-up of its packaging films business in 1996 with a 12,000 MT/yr. Polyester Film (BOPET) to becoming a global player to be reckoned with. Indeed, its Nasik factory is the world's largest single flexible packaging film producing facility. More than two-thirds of its output is exported to Western Europe.

After entering the packaging films business with BOPET film, they diversified into BOPP films in 2003. They have since added downstream value-addition facilities like metallising and coating. A major coup was the take-over of Rexor SA in France (turnover Euro 28 million), an industry leader in coated and metallised films with specialised applications like tear strips, security threads, stamping foils and film wraps. They are also the only independent manufacturer of security threads for currency notes to combat counterfeiting.

JPFL is today the worlds fifth largest producer of BOPET films with an annual capacity of 86,000 MT. This includes two 8.7 meter width (25,000 MT/yr.) lines which are the worlds largest. Another 8.7 m. 25,000 MT/yr. BOPET line is being added and will be up and running by early 2008.

Its annual BOPP capacity is now 90,000 MT, almost double that of the next largest Indian producer. Its coating line is the only plant in India that can apply PVDC coatings on flexible films.

According to their Marketing Director Mr. Samir Banerjee, “JPFL will continue to strive for leadership in global markets in the high value-added flexible films segments by going in for cutting-edge technologies and equipment.”
