Jindal lends new touch to studios
Plans chain of Fuji Film Picture Plazas


The New Delhi-based Rs 4.7 bn Jindal Photo Films Ltd. will roll out a chain of 150 Fuji film Picture Plaza in different part of the country beginning July 2001. Under this strategy, Jindal Photo is inducting select photo studios across the country under the umbrella of the Fuji brand. The new initiative is intended to bolster Fuji`s presence in the amateur segment, represented by hobby photographers.

Mr. Vimal Khemka, managing director, Jindal Photo Films Ltd., said, `` We command 60% share of the professional market but in the amateur segment our share has to be improved.`` The Fuji brand is estimated to have 36% share of the 85 mn rolls a year domestic market. The amateur segment is estimated at 40% of the overall roll market, which is projected to grow at an annual rate of 4-5%

In the first phase, select photo studios from 10 cities will be inducted into the franchised network of Fuji Picture Plaza. These plaza are expected to give a fillip to the company`s existing network of 500 Fuji Film Image Services. This contributes around 17-20% to Jindal turnover. The company has firmed up a four-fold program for Fuji Film Picture Plazas: organize frequent workshops to train in better photography at studios; investment of around Rs 200,000 per studio for signage, display counters and a studio-specific brand campaign and retail promotion support.

The company has targeted to increase its turnover from Rs 4.7 bn last fiscal to Rs 5 bn this year.
