The Label Encyclopedia
Labelexpo America 2004 will see the launch of an encyclopedia on labels. It will cover the major label technologies of wet-glue, self-adhesives, garment, in-mold, sleeving, wrap-around film and cut-and-stack film.
The encyclopedia will be of more than 220 pages including the traditional label industry terms and the contemporary variable printing, coding, digital designing, processes, UV-curing, label application, source tagging, EAS technology, security and smart labels, RFID, legislation and computer and internet terminologies. The major technologies covered would be of wet glue, self adhesive, in mold, sleeving, wrap around and cut-stack films and garments printing processes both mechanical and electronic. Information on bodies such as ISO, FDA, and BSI etc will be there including the list of key label industry, printing, materials associations. It also provides guidelines on global label legislation for food, drugs, cosmetics, aerosol, chemicals and clothing. The illustrations are with diagrams and easy to understand explanations of various terms including brief histories of main label industry pioneers.
The encyclopedia is the result of four years of research of Mike Fairley, founder and publisher of `Labels and Labeling` magazine and also contributor to three previous encyclopedias including `Encyclopedia of Packaging technology` and `Encyclopedia of Occupational Health and Safety`. ``The aim of this new encyclopedia is to simplify complicated and often confusing terms and terminology to help the existing and new players of the industry,`` asserts Fairley.
``This encyclopedia is expected to become the definitive reference source for everything to do with labels and the key tool for the industry to refer throughout the year,`` believes Roger Pellow, M D, Labelexpo.
