FFP Produces OPP Laminate Packaging For Whitworths
FFP Packaging Solutions has produced OPP laminate packaging for Whitworths new Sunny Raisin flavoured and coated raisins.
The Northampton-based flexible packaging manufacturer was approached by the fruit snack specialist to produce a sustainable pack for the children's products.
FFP used its Estergreen film and developed a laminate of oxo-degradable OPP, a material that will disintegrate over a period of time, breaking down into tiny fragments. Alternatively, the energy of the pack can be recovered through incineration.
The packaging was flexo printed in eight colours and in production is indistinguishable from a more conventional material.
There are five varieties in the Sunny Raisin range.
Whitworths packaging development manager Mark Oaten said the firm was a substantial user of flexible packaging and took its environmental responsibilities seriously.
`Although expensive, we felt the investment in degradable packaging was worthwhile.` he said.
