Congress leader opposes Nalco disinvestment
Prospective bidders to submit Expression Of Interest

Even as the government invited initial bids for disinvestment in the profit-making National Aluminium Company in Orissa, senior Congress leader Srikant Jena urged CM Naveen Patnaik to convene an all-party meeting to resist the move.

Patnaik is known to have opposed the disinvestment and had told the Centre to stop it but he should take the initiative to hold an all-party meeting to chalk out a plan to resist the move, Jena said. The state assembly should be summoned soon to pass a resolution opposing the Nalco disinvestment and Patnaik should lead an all-party delegation to New Delhi in Orissa's interest, he said.

The government invited initial bids for sale of 29.15 percent stake to a strategic partner along with management control in Nalco on August 23 last. Prospective bidders were required to submit an Expression Of Interest by September 16, according to official sources.
