Colour-Chem, Clariant businesses see no overlap



Clariant sees big potential in the Indian market and plans to use the combined resources of its five arms here to tap it.

'We are delighted at this opportunity to strengthen our position in India. We see the country as a key growth market of strategic importance and look forward to expanding our presence and activities here. We are confident that the combined entity will reinforce Clariant’s position as a big player in the speciality chemicals industry in India,' Clariant regional special markets president Peter Lindner said during an interview with a leading newspaper.

Clariant, which is represented on five continents, with over 100 group companies, generated around Swiss Frank (CHF) 8.5bn in ‘04. The group’s businesses are organised in five divisions — textile, leather and paper chemicals, pigments and additives, functional chemicals, life sciences chemicals and master batches.

Clariant and Colour-Chem currently have clearly-segregated businesses in India. In terms of product portfolio, there is no overlapping, and each division has multiple products catering to different customers. However, in the textile auxiliaries business there is some overlap.
