Bond With The Best
Rohm and Haas Introduce New Adhesives
Rohm and Haas have unveiled two new ranges of adhesives that claim significant technological advantages over currently available products.
The first is a 2nd Generation series of water-based dry lamination adhesives called Robond L. These have been specially developed for general and medium performance applications for a wide variety of packaging laminates. This patented technology promises to deliver converters adhesive bond strength and chemical resistance that compare with those obtained from conventional solvent adhesives. It claims to provide excellent laminating performance even on difficult substrates like aluminium foil and CPP films at faster line speeds.
It can also withstand pasteurisation and aggressive filling products like like sauces and flavoured coffee. Rohm and Haas say that customers who beta tested the Robond L range reported lower coating weights and higher speeds. They also reported no problems on foaming or clogging of anilox rollers that were associated with earlier generations of water-based adhesives. This range can also run on existing solvent-based lamination equipment. Other benefits claimed include longer pot life, faster curing with higher shear strength – even in-line slitting is possible – and an environment-friendly and safer product that have no aromatic isocyanates.
The second product is a range of cold-seal adhesives called Coseal. This range claims to overcome two problems faced hitherto by converters and end-users, viz. permeation of moisture and oxygen through seals for sensitive products like candy bars, gummy snacks and ice-cream and an improvement in sealing performance as compared to conventional cold seal adhesives based on natural rubber. Rohm and Haas claim that this range is a lower-priced higher-performance alternative to even synthetic cold-seal adhesives currently available.
