Bilt Rolls Out New Paper Product
Hopes to more than double market share in two years

Ballarpur Industries (Bilt) has launched roll coated C1S (coated one side) paper for the first time in India.

The company has phased out its own production of the lower grade knife coated C1S. The new product is being manufactured at the company`s plant at Sewa in Orissa. The new paper machine, set up at a capital cost of Rs 1.1bn, was imported from Perlin, Switzerland.

Of the total domestic market of 200,000 tonnes per annum for coated paper, C1S accounts for about 33%. Within C1S, air knife coated has been the preferred choice, accounting for 80% of all C1S sales. Bilt dominated the market almost completely. By offering the new product at the same price, Bilt expects to take its market share of C1S paper from 35% to 75% within two years.
