An Indian bookstore goes online with sex education
Oxfordbookstore.com hopes to seduce surfers with `Kamasutra`
The country`s biggest online bookstore has decided to display some very India-specific sex education section, called Kamasutra, on its web site – oxfordbookstore.com. The store has been careful not to upset the moral brigade. There will be no nudity on the site, which is meant to impart sex education to children. The Kamasutra pages will be put up till July 15 initially and may be a regular feature if the feedback is good.
The sub-sections range from `warming up` to FAQs on sex. A special sub-section is dedicated to aphrodisiacs, which also traces the origin of eternal favorites like chocolates, avocados, honey, asparagus and pine nuts. Another section is devoted to a quiz where one gets to judge how good or bad one is as a lover.
According to Sanjiv Mehra, COO of oxfordbookstore.com, `` Sex education is a taboo in India. But it is common knowledge that children do surf the net and end up at sleazy sites. To my mind this is unfair and there should be a regular sex site. We were getting a lot of agony mails and were flooded with queries on marital status, incest and various sex-related problems. I’m sure that with this addition hits on our site will go up manifold.``
