Ahmedabad emerges as a large growth center for labels
Unprecedented turnouts at ILS 2004 road shows

``Our road show itinerary for ILS 2004 does not include any city that we had been to during our previous campaigns. The only
exception is Ahmedabad. We are here, third year in a row and find that the response gets better every year,`` said Anil Arora welcoming the assembled 170 delegates on the 28th August evening at Hotel Inder Residency. Ahmedabad was the penultimate stop for the ILS 2004 road show that winds up at Kolkuta on the first October after visiting six cities in two distinct phases of the pre-event campaign.

``Ahmedabad is a large growth centre for the label printing industry,`` confirmed Yogesh Parikh, President Ahmedabad Press Owners Association. He was the special guest for the evening and struck a chord with the largely Gujarati audience speaking in the native language. ``I am aware that equipment manufacturers in Ahmedabad are today making hot melt coaters and fairly good label presses. Several players have entered the market at the lower end of the business of label stock and printing labels even as the established
players are adding to their capacities with imported presses,`` he said.

Heening Henskamp, of Print Dynamics KG, the German ink marketing company, on his first visit to the country, had spent the previous four days meeting label printers in Mumbai and Hyderabad and was planning to see the printers in Delhi, Chennai and Bangalore later during his visit. ``I am struck with the vibrancy of the industry and the obvious thirst for knowledge,`` he said. Henning had a busy time fielding questions from the delegates after the seminar where he made a presentation on ``Latest Trends in UV flexo``, covering the basics of flexography printing and dwelling at great length on the factors that influence the amount of ink transfer.

The second technical presentation made by Harveer S Sahni of Weldon Celloplast Limited, was a preview of the upcoming presentation at
Info Label 2004. He spoke on various security features that are today being incorporated in labels for protecting brands and fighting counterfeiting of products.

P V Narayanan, Director of SIES School of Packaging gave a detailed description of the Info label Conference. ``There will be 25 presentations over the three days and the subjects have been carefully chosen to be of equal interest to the label printer and brand owner,`` he revealed. Bakul Pandya, Vice President (West), Label Manufacturers Association of India proposed the vote of thanks.

Earlier, over twenty companies had put up a tabletop exhibition during the day at the same venue that had seen nearly 200 visitors comprising printers, industry people and label buyers treading in to talk business and network in the informal atmosphere provided in this unique promotional campaign.
