A Word From The Far East
Takayasu Yamada, MD, Ishida shares some of his thoughts on the Indian market
Ishida India Pvt. Ltd. introduced a complete new series of products including VFFS, checkweigher, bagmaker machines and retail solutions at the Show.
Tell us about the launches at PackPlus 2009?
Though we have a strong place in the global market, in India we are only still in the introductory stage. So, we chose PackPlus to introduce a whole series of our products. Basically, through this show we have promoted our weighing & packaging and inspection line. We have also put scales and automated retail products for super markets on display.
Being one of the manufacturers of VFFS machines, how would you comment on the present packaging requirements
For the past 3 years, most of the production lines including snacks and confectionary have been looking at higher efficiency machines. There is a lack of space in capacities, so the plant owners look for high speed machines to bring more productivity.
This has brought in new challenges before the manufacturers. Ishida has tried to meet such requirements with its high speed machines.
What kind of products do you deal with?
We pack solid, free-flowing product like snacks, confectionaries, dairies, frozen food, ready-to-eat, fresh vegetables and grains, poultries, seafoods, as well as pharma products
Do you think the food packaging segment is growing more than the non-food segment?
India being an agriculture specific country has a wide scope in food industry. There is a lot of potential in the market and penetration in new areas can also give rise to new opportunities.
